Ivan Petrović

Registry, (from the series of photographs Registry), 2001, C-type, 35,5 x 51 cm

The photographed objects in these images represent part of the material found in the archive of a municipal magistrate. They were used as tools with which some offences against public order and safety were caused, or some assaults or other illegal acts were performed. All these objects, in their highest instance, were used as evidence in judicial interrogations.

With the alteration of its “utility value”, the object changes its function and meaning, becoming eventually the means of intimidation, as well as the symbol with which an individual identifies his or her latent affinities.

Ivan Petrović, born in Kruševac in 1973. He graduated from the Braća Karić Academy of Arts in 2002, from the Department of Photography. He received the 2004 scholarship from Kultur Kontakt, Vienna.
