Mihael Milunović

Mihael Milunović, Ghetto (west end), 2007, oil on canvas, 130x80 cm

This artist’s paintings have always been provocative and intriguing. In this series, the artist is showing the city as the main stage for an entire spectrum of contemporary subjects and phenomena, which are integral parts of our lives. Fast-food restaurants, porn movie theatres, and gas stations make a huge stage for ephemeral spectacles of media culture and consumer society. Painted in the characteristic Pop-Art manner, with bright colours and in an almost comic-like language, these images are finding an immediate way to the viewer’s mind.

Mihael Milutinović, born 1967 in Belgrade. Received his BA in 1992 and MA in 1995, from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Belgrade. Completed specialist studies at the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts in Paris. He lives and works in Belgrade and Saint-Étienne, France.
