Saša Tkačenko

Saša Tkačenko, Hygiene, 2009, aluminum, motro oil, 120x70 cm

Motor oil pours down the metallic surface and underneath it appears the image of washing hands. The work Hygiene represents the artist’s contemplation of the gesture and performative nature of this act. As one of the oldest and symbolically most notable operations, washing hands is morally and philosophically connoted act which gains significance in today’s world of growing hypocrisy.

Saša Tkačenko was born in 1979. He obtained his MA degree in sculpture from the Faculty of Applied Arts in Belgrade and participated in numerous group and solo exhibitions in Serbia and abroad. Tkačenko won the Dimitrije Bašičević Mangelos Award for 2013. His works are in the collections of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Belgrade and the Telenor Collection of Serbian Contemporary Art.
